Enjoy 3 DIY faux fireplace ideas that can liven up your home with whimsy and warmth.

Continuing along the inspiration of fireplaces, what should the poor souls (myself included) who don’t have a fireplace do to add interest in our homes? Build one, but of course! Here are 3 DIY faux fireplace ideas that can liven up your home with whimsy and warmth.

I love the textural feeling of this faux fireplace, whose DIY is available viavia Apartment Therapy.

If you find a perfect vintage mantle, all you need is chalkboard paint to creatively evoke fire (via OhDeeDoh).

I’m not only seriously in love with the card catalog, but the DIY stacked fireplace mantle adds such interest to this room. The best part is that you can get DIY instructions via a Small Notebook.

Creating is the essence of life -Julius Caeser

A few weeks ago, I picked up sheets of vintage transfer type, which I was hoping I could utilize on non-paper items. Transfer type + wooden spools? Voila! It turns out vintage spools are perfect…as is any smooth, porous surface, I suspect.

From sewing projects to transfer type, and everything in between, I wish you a marvelous weekend full of creation! Thank you all for your wonderful inspirations, and I’ll be back on Monday to announce the winner of the fun giveaway!

I have a soft spot for vintage industrial treasures, especially the ones that are creatively converted to other uses than their original purpose. Although Twenty Gauge does not specialize in re-purposed vintage industrial treasures, they do a fantastic job of rehabilitating vintage industrial pieces…and even customizing them to match your decor. For example, you can opt for the classic 1950s straight chair, but reupholstered in any fabric of your desire.

However, you can indeed have DIY vintage industrial furniture that matches your interior color whimsy. If you find a great vintage industrial piece (at flea markets or closed warehouses), you can always take the piece to your local, discount auto body paint shop. For a nominal fee, you can ask them to paint whatever piece you find in the color you fancy. Or, for an even cheaper DIY make-over, pull out your good ol’ fashioned spray paint…which also allows you to pick and choose which areas you want to re-paint.

Remember, vintage industrial can look good in any room – use an old lawyer’s bookcase in your dining room, or opt for a vintage industrial table as your entertainment center. With creativity, the possibilities are endless!
