My friends, it looks like the Poetic Home household is growing from two to three! Hubby and I are happily pregnant with our very first baby, who will most likely be a New Year baby!
I always knew that a baby would change our life, but I didn’t realize that the changes would happen so quickly! With baby on board, we realize that being nomads is not the best idea, so we are cutting our roadtrip short and heading back this week to San Diego, where we will be having the baby (living on a tropical island shall also have to wait). I have also befallen the challenges of the first trimester, including morning sickness that has been lasting 24 hours a day. If you have any all day sickness tips, I would love be much obliged if you shared your wisdom with me!
I will not be posting for the next two weeks as we journey back across the country and become re-settled, but I look forward to being with you all again later in the month!

Woo hoo is right! Congrats — you’ll feel better soon (it is amazing how long the first trimester feels, isn’t it?) Ice chips, ginger tea and ginger candy, and making someone else do the cooking worked for me. Well sort of …that’s how I remember it, anyway!

Congratulations! Such a good thing to hear! Have fun moving back and try not to be too miserable if the sickness doesn’t go away. But I think all the tips that have been given so far should clear it right up! : )

try to keep something in your stomach at all times, lots of little small meals, crackers, ginger snaps, baked potatos and sprite got me through.

congratulations! that’s such exciting news. i have never been pregnant, but i get serious motion sickness whenever i’m in a car, and the things that have helped me are eating apples and drinking kombucha.

Grace!!!!!! I’m sooo excited for you and your husband! I know how thrilled you two must be. I’m sorry for the morning sickness. Small protein packed meals (always kept nuts in my bag) and nausea wrist bands were helpful. It won’t last, but I’m sure you’re miserable. You wait for this miracle and then wonder what you got yourself into!! Soon you’ll get to the fun part!
xox,
maya

Congratulations! What wonderful news. All the best to you, your husband, the the little one.
And I sympathize, for my second I was sick 24/7 – saltines were my savior.

Hi Grace,
Welcome back and congratulations! It’s exciting. I look forward to seeing your new furnishings and nursery. My baby will be here any day. My due date was June 16. : )

I didn’t have full blown morning sickness, just constant nausea. I pretty much slept through the first trimester (which is not a good solution if you’re watching your baby weight gain), but for the nausea sodas like ginger ale and Sprite worked for me. Sometimes candied ginger did the trick–sometimes I just needed a little protein and that worked, too.
More than anything, though, switching my prenatals from the ones the Dr. prescribed to mid-priced, food sourced one from the health food store made the ickiness go away with a quickness. I’m in my 25th week, so feel free to email me if you have any questions–it’s all still fresh in my mind!
And Congratulations!!!

You’re likely over it by now, but here are my morning sickness tips:
- always have something in your tummy
- eat BEFORE getting out of bed in the morning
- smelling fresh-cut lemons and eating lemon-flavoured candy worked for me
- heed your cravings and aversions
- don’t eat too much at one time
Congratulations! My baby girl is almost three months now!

I was sick with both of my kids for 4 months and it sucked. Nothing I tried made it better. The only time I was not sick was when I was eating, sleeping or swimming. Exercise will help. I feel your pain. Hopefully you are at the end of it all. It sucks being that sick but it is so worth all the pain. : )

That’s wonderful news – congratulations! I’m afraid I haven’t got any tips on morning sickness, but I think that once you’re feeling better and when you have your baby, you’ll forget all about it and think it was worth it.
Best of wishes for the next months – hope you’ll get better really soon!
