From Wine to Divine: Repurposed Wine Crate Ideas

Mar 23, 2009 by

Rachel at Heart of Light recently shared with us her balcony’s lovely repurposed wine crate planter, and it reminded me of the wine crate entertainment system that I construted fresh out of college, without any furniture and a breadcrumb non-profit job salary.  Alas, I don’t have any photos to share, as I only picked up digital photography in the last few years, but here are some other repurposing wine crate ideas that will have you thinking twice about befriending your local wine shop’s owner.

The Man of Steel, whose repurposed work I’ve featured before, shares a peek into his workshop, which is cleverly organized with upcycled wine crate shelves.  For directions on how to connect fruit crates or wine crates together to make a bookshelf, visit this tutorial.

Can You See Me Now?

…tap…tap…tap…

Hello, it’s me Grace — behind the Google ad!

It has come to my attention that my endeavor to earn $.30 from Google ads this week has disrupted the viewing pleasures of several of my coveted readers.  I would have thought that Google, the ruler of the internet universe, would have compatible code with browsers.  Alas, they have failed me.  To ensure there are no more interruptions, I have happily removed the ad and replaced it with a humble link to my Etsy shop.  I’m terribly sorry for the disruption, but we will now return to our regularly scheduled programs!

I suppose the best way to compensate for the mix-up is to show you some mixed-up typewriters!  These typewriters were from a 2005 art exhibit from the New York School of Visual Arts, aptly titled “The Next Best … Ding!“    While I’m not a proponent of destroying vintage typewriters, these certainly make for good conversation pieces — and I comfort myself with the thought that perhaps all of these typewriters were beyond repair.

Don’t you think the click-clack of the typewriter and it’s lovely “ding” make for a zenful experience?

I’m sorry about the advertising mix-up!

Happy, happy Friday everyone!  Thank you for all of your understanding — and I’ll see you bright and early next week!

From Poetic Home to Dubai and Toledo

Mar 19, 2009 by

It’s always quite magical for me to see vintage treasures from the pH Etsy shop fly away to new homes.  Today, let’s take a peek into where a Royal typewriter and birdcage have traveled.

vintage-royal-typewriter

This beloved 1950s turquoise Royal typewriter flew all the way to Dubai to rest amongst beautiful antique books in TheCuriousNomad’s home.  I hope that it will create literary inspirations that could one day match the beautiful artwork she creates and sells in TheCuriousNomad’s Etsy shop!

With a whistle and a tweet, this antique teak birdcage flew to Toledo and found its soul mate in kizzyj’s Asian-inspired home!   Dosen’t it look perfect amongst her lush colors and exotic decor?

The Homebound’s Favorite Vintage Things

Mar 18, 2009 by

Today I have the pleasure of sharing peeks into the home and vintage treasures of Jess, from The Homebound.  For inspiration on renovations, doses of clever humor, and fantastic chalkboard paint ideas, The Homebound is the place to be.  And any girl who includes a vintage shop in her wedding registry is a fantastic chica in my book!  Perhaps the best way to introduce Jess would be to share some of my favorite spaces in her lovely historic house.

Pairing a chalkboard panel with a clawfoot bathtub is so unconventional, yet so lovely together.  I can imagine beautiful love poems written on the chalkboard panel.

Jess’ ingenious ways with chalkboard paint is the perfect solution to a home office’s wall.  If I had this wall, framed to-do list and calendar, I know I would be exponentially more effective.

Jess’ most recent incarnation of her living room mixes and matches different genres and colorscapes very well.  The red chair pictured is one of Jess’ favorite vintage things — and for good reason!  In her own words, “This vintage red darling is the first piece of furniture that my husband and I purchased together. We were in a local second hand store and my husband saw this chair. Usually I don’t let him help in any decor purchases because I am a complete control freak when it comes to interior design. But, he pointed this baby out, I thought that I could make this piece work in my house and now it is one of my favorite pieces. Score one for the husband and now I have also reached my quota in allowing him to help. Two birds with one stone, people!

“This picture is a 3 for 1 treat! The two side lamps were wonderful wedding presents that I had registered for at a tiny vintage store in my husband’s hometown. I thought it would be a little different to register at someplace other than Target (though you better believe I went there too!) or Bed Bath and Beyond and the clock is something we inherited from my husband’s grandmother. I think it makes a rather nice vignette in our dining room.”

Thank you Jess for sharing your favorite vintage treasures — and for inspiring us all to take out our chalkboard paint!

On the Line with Repurposed Clothespins

Mar 17, 2009 by

Hello, humble clothespin.

You help my sheets and unmentionables enjoy kisses from the sun and wind.  You hold my chip bags closed, and when I’m grumpy at my husband, you are the perfect weapon.

However, my dear clothespin, I’m afraid have neglected you in all of your repurposed glory.  I haven’t repurposed clothespins into lamps, paint brushes, or even apparel.  While your siblings are frolicking as upcycled clothespins, you are relegated to my clothes.  May this collection of repurposing ideas allow you to forgive me and my boring unmentionables.
