By the Light of the Vintage Spoon

The creativity of repurposing always makes me incredibly happy.  My first encounter with repurposing was my first week in college, when I was meandering towards campus via colorful Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley and found a street vendor clanking away at vintage spoons — and I happily walked away with a spoon ring that I still have to this day!

These stunning chandeliers, upon closer inspection, are made with antique silverware pieces — which are perfect for their shine and sparkle.  My favorite come from the Montreal artist Francois Legault, whose “bloom” pendants made of spoons have such beautiful organic shape.

Do you use your silverware for other purposes beyond eating?

These are unbelievable! I particularly like the Francois Legault in the bottom right hand corner.

These artists are so talented — I will never look at a fork, spoon, or knife ever the same again!

    Dear Grace,

I have missed so much from you lately…I love the same chandeliers that you do. The tulip shape of the spoons is charming. I think that these lamps would be great looking in a small cafe or bistro, don’t you?

Am I the only one who was too cheap or poor to buy a spoon ring on Telegraph Avenue!?

    Go Bears!

    Ciao amica,

    Suzanne

    PS

Last week I bought three new lamps for my home (there was a great lamp sale at a shop in town)…had to finally replace some old college relics that my husband had around forever. Now I want to figure out a way to “repurpose” them, but for now they are put away in the attic.

    xoxo

I once used them in a finicky process with unpredictable results when I lacquered them and painted them with liquid photo emulsion.
