Fiat Lux — Upcycled Lamps

I have a secret obsession with lamps (such as my birdcage chandelier), and my favorite are ones that are repurposed — don’t you think they make for such interesting conversation pieces?  I recently saw that Ikea has a hanging lamp kit for only $3.99, and my mind has been running with ideas.

What types of fun lighting do you have illuminating your home?  Here are the latest ones that have caught my eye:

Clockwise from top left: Upcycled vintage Tupperwares make cheery pendant lamps via Oak Boston; Chains and wire create a rocker style lamp via Etsy’s Swandieve; I always knew the Dutch were fabulous, and this great street lamp made of recycled soda bottles is another testament to their style via Flickr’s miek37; Reclaimed gear parts create industrial and stylish lamps via Etsy’s sksullivan667.

Clockwise from top left: Tea time has never been more chic with this repurposed tea set lamp via Flickr’s Flea Market 2 Fabulous; Candle holders, handle pulls, and a wood vase combine to create a stylishly modern recycled lamp by Etsy’s jalexstudios; A vintage decanter transforms into a classy crystal-esque lamp by Etsy’s YoursTrulyxoxo

Let there be light .. especially when they are this cool :) I have a feeling that the tea kettle light is functional, and if not, dont tell me .. I will live the lie.

Ohhh me too! Love lighting, and especially the repurposed kind! The turqoise tupperware one is divine!! In my own home I have some old industrial lamps, but nothing repurposed..what a shame!

Those tupperware ones are amazing! I wish I could replace our ugly dining room chandelier, but we rent, so I would have to store the enormous beast somewhere to put it back when we move out. I’m still tempted, though.

I love the Tupperware one too — I wonder if it needs to be sprayed with fire-resistant material…although it does withstand the microwave just fine :) I think the Tupperware lamp is a great DIY project, especially with Ikea’s way affordable $3.99 lamp kit.

Jon — There’s nothing wrong with living a lie when it comes to lamps ;)

Rachel — I feel your pain of renting. What does your chandelier look like? I wonder if you could cover it up with small tubberwares? :)

Monica — Oooh, vintage industrial lamps? How do you always know how to speak my language?

Grace, I have an article I want to send you about old lamps that I read in Country Home the same day you wrote this. The timing was impecable!

My favorite, however, is still the bird cage/stand chandelier lamp…just let me know if that is ever going to be available to purchase ~ I’ll come out and get it!

    Ciao amica,

    Suzanne
